I’m Yuxiang Zhai. 我是翟羽翔。
I’m a researcher and designer. I’m currently focusing on Participatory Design, which empowers older adults through co-speculation. In my previous works, I have explored how the strengths and experiences of older adults are highlighted and stimulated in collaborations with designers.
As participants in the design process, older adults act as the “experts” of their communities. Through Critique and Envision emphasized in Speculative Design, a platform for imaginative discourse could be created to conceptualize possibilities for the future digital aging society through the lens of these older individuals’ experiences.
I’m in the forth year of my Ph.D at The Future Laboratory of Tsinghua University, mentored by Jeung Jihong from the Research Center for Aging User Experience and Service System Design (AeX).
Since February 2025, I have been a Visiting PhD Student in Design Informatics at the University of Edinburgh, supervised by John Vines. (End February 2026)
